A kysz! (Polish for “shoo!”) started as a joke page: a monospace countdown to a far-away date and a line of news headlines that scramble into each other. Press Space and the page turns into an arcade game in which the words of those headlines are the enemies.
Open the game full screen → Click inside the frame first so it gets the keyboard.
How to play#
- Space starts the game, or tap a mode on a phone.
- Shooter: the words of a headline fall from the top, each at its own speed. Move with the arrows and shoot with Space. Clear a headline and the next one comes faster. Let a word past your line three times and the game is over. Your survival time is the score.
- Arkanoid: the words of a headline are the bricks. Bounce the ball with the paddle and break them. A cleared wall brings a faster one, and you lose a life when the ball falls past the paddle.
- Sometimes a destroyed word drops a flickering “egg”. Catch it to find out what it is: an extra life, a shield against one hit, slow motion, a triple shot (or extra balls) or a wider shot (or paddle).
- On a touch screen a control strip appears under the board: drag along it to move, tap ● to shoot, ✕ to leave.
How it is built#
- TypeScript + Phaser 3, bundled with esbuild into two bundles. The light landing bundle (countdown, ticker, mode menu) loads first. Phaser and the game bundle load only when you start playing, so the joke page stays fast.
- A mode registry with a shared base scene. Each game mode is one scene class, and the power-up system is shared between them.
- One input layer for keyboard and touch, so every mode works on a phone.
- On its original server, a small PHP backend collects fresh headlines from several Polish news sites every 12 hours and keeps a global record, validated with a one-time token and an HMAC signature.
The copy on this site is fully static: the headlines come from a saved list of about 11,000 of them, and the record is kept only in your browser.
