# 42 game mechanics in 64 minutes, mostly from games you haven't heard of

Source: [64 Minutes of Cool Game Mechanics (Game Design Library, YouTube)](https://youtu.be/mdkj8KwhaVA)

An hour of game mechanics, picked mostly from games that hardly anyone has reviewed. In 1000xResist you move through time instead of space, and the same rooms change as the years go by and the people in them grow up. In God of Weapons you never swing a weapon yourself, because the way you pack the inventory decides what the automatic attacks do. The narrator throws in a few famous games for contrast and asks people not to rush to the comments about them.

**TL;DR**

- Postponed: weekly forced projects; right-skilled staff finish faster; failed events hurt mental health
- Pathogenic: bullet hell, corridor refills with enemies; farm rooms or rush the boss; bombs hurt you
- Hyperdrop (Pachinko roguelite): limited re-drops of the last ball; move, remove, rotate pins anytime
- Leap Year: jump height equals minimum lethal fall height; walls and ceilings keep momentum
- Game Dev Tycoon: sales fund the next game; polish or release now
- Quantum Break: time bubble freezes enemies, bullets start when it fades; time dash, time shield
- Night Hike: Minesweeper-like board; placed rooms give bugs, coins, rest or compass code
- Spellsided: you play a die; top face's spell decides the move
- Yet Another Zombie Survivors: pickups never disappear; hidden cap stops further drops
- Death Stranding: cargo placement on your back changes weight distribution and control
